Krumping is an urban street dance form characterized by free, expressive, and highly energetic moves involving the arms, head, legs, chest, and feet. The root word, Krump, is an acronym for Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise.

Krumping appeared in Los Angeles during the 1990’s. Krumping includes four primary moves: wobbles, arm swings, chest pops, and stomps. Clowning is the less aggressive predecessor to krumping and was created in 1992 by Thomas “Tommy the Clown” Johnson. In the 90’s Tommy and his dancers, the Hip Hop Clowns, would paint their faces and perform clowning for children at birthday parties or for the general public at other functions as a form of entertainment. In contrast, krumping focuses on highly energetic battles and movements which Tommy describes as intense, fast-paced, and sharp. “If movement were words, krumping would be a poetry slam.”Krumping was not directly created by Tommy the Clown; however, it did grow out of clown dancing.

Popping is a style of hip hop dance and one of the original funk styles of dance that came out of Fresno, in the 70s. Like other styles of hip hop dance, popping is often performed in a battle-trying to outperform another dancer or group of dancers in front of a crowd. This gives room for improvisation and moves that are seldom seen in shows and performances.

In the 70s, the pioneer popping group the Electric Boogaloos (earlier known as the Electronic Boogaloo Lockers) greatly contributed to the spread of popping, partly because of their appearance on the television program Soul Train. Their founder Sam Solomon (a.k.a. Boogaloo Sam) created a set of movements that evolved into the styles known today as popping and boogaloo after being inspired by one of the pioneer locking groups known as The Lockers as well as a fad dance popular in the 1960s known as the jerk.

Popping is centered around the technique of popping (or hitting), which means to quickly contract and relax muscles to create a jerking effect (a pop or hit) in the body. Popping can be concentrated to specific body parts creating variants such as arm pops, leg pops, chest pops and neck pops. They also can vary in explosiveness. Stronger pops normally involve popping both the lower and upper body simultaneously.

Normally pops, or hits, are performed at regular intervals timed to the beat of the music, causing the dance to appear very rhythmic in nature. A common technique of transitioning between poses is the dime stop, heavily utilized in robot dancing, which basically means to end a movement with an abrupt halt (thus “stopping on a dime”), after which a pop normally occurs.

It was to support the initiative PEACE ONE DAY, that the convergence that has already lasted 60 years between the two major german Sportbrands finally had a end. To celebrate and give emphasis to this initiative on 21 September (World Peace Day) a football match between Puma and Adidas took place.

Particularly for this memorable football game, Adidas and Puma had created a football kit in black and white that sported adidas’ three stipe logo as well as puma’s leaping cat. The kit is part of a limited collection of 80 pieces, that will be auctioned for PEACE ONE DAY.

The game was played by the employees of both companies and divided between the team “White” and the team “Black” - the final result was 7:5 victory of team”Black”, which strangely was the team of both CEO.
